Pasture raised food and locally grown flowers, from two family farms

One family, one brand, two sides. The farm grows clean food. The floral studio makes beautiful things, as much of it as we can from what we grow ourselves.

We are Alex and Bronte Paulsen. We farm ground in Cass County that has been in the family since 1905, an hour from Omaha and an hour from Des Moines, right off Interstate 80.

This is the first season, and we are being deliberate about it. A short list of families getting chicken off the farm. A short list of people getting wreaths and garland this fall. Design work for the events that fit. That is the whole plan, and we would rather do that well than do more of it poorly.

The farm

Clean food, raised without taking from the ground

Broiler chickens on pasture, sold direct off the farm by the batch, alongside the crops that go in around them. Food you can trace to a person and a field.

The floral studio

Flowers grown here, arranged by hand

Wreaths, garland and seasonal centerpieces through the fall, and floral design for weddings and events the rest of the year.

What we are actually doing right now

Rather than list everything a farm could eventually be, here is what is real this season and what is next.

This fall

Wreaths, garland and centerpieces

Fresh evergreen wreaths, garland, fall and holiday centerpieces, and custom pieces. Des Moines is the first place we are taking them.

Next season

Chicken by the batch

Broilers raised on pasture and sold direct off the farm, roughly ten birds to a family, three times across the summer. The list decides how many we raise.

Year round

Floral design for weddings and events

Bronte designs the flowers. We grow what the season allows and source the rest honestly. We come to your venue, we do not host on the farm.

All wealth bottoms out in food and water. If you have any interest in true wealth, you really need to have a handle on those things.

Alex Paulsen

Two farms, two families, a long time on the same ground

The front place is the Paulsen farm. The family moved onto it in 1905, which makes it an Iowa Century Farm. The back place is the Nelson farm, which belonged to Alex's grandma Janet. She was a teenager when her family took it on, and she is 93 now, so that ground has been in the family somewhere close to eighty years.

Both of them are heritage farms. Neither of them is a brand we invented last winter. That is the part of this business nobody starting out this year can copy, and it is the reason we are comfortable taking our time.

Get on the list

The fastest way to hear about a batch of chicken, a run of wreaths, or anything else we have ready is to be on the list before we have it. No set schedule, and nothing gets sold or handed to anyone else.
